New Year, new do! That’s what I wanted, that’s what I got.
I’m one of those people that gets an idea in their head and runs with it, and immediately too. One day I looked at my hair in the mirror and decided I didn’t like it. I had just taken the extensions out not long ago and realized how dead my hair really was. The ends were just so yucky, they looked like hay. Must have been all the bleaching I’ve done over the years to keep myself blonde. I’m naturally a brunette – a dark one too. But I’ve always loved blonde. That is until now.
That same day I wanted to go into a salon and do something with it. I wanted a totally new look. In the past that consisted of just changing color. I would never dare cut my own hair short. But as a mother of a one year old and 5 months pregnant I figured oh well. How bad could it be?! I’ve only been in Kansas City for a year and a half. Well….that sounds like a long time. But the first year I was pretty much pregnant…then I had a baby so I didn’t get to go out much or find all my spots to get my girly things done. So I didn’t know where to go to do my hair. I decided I would just trust the same stylist my girl uses here and just hope for the best. (side note: i’m also one of those weird, into horoscopes type of girl and I had read my Susan Miller report for the month which stated I would have great success if I had a make over and changed my looks completely LOL). When you want to do something you find all signs you possibly can! Shoot, I went with it. Being that it was so close to New Year celebrations, the stylist ended up being fully booked but my friend was kind enough to give me her appointment on the 30th of December. That’s love right?! I told her in my head she practically gifted me two pairs of Loubs. I owe her big time!
So I go to the salon, Gio, diaper bag and all, and am ready for a brand new look! I normally make fun of all those “New Year, New Me” statements people make online! So cliche haha! But in my case, I was doing just that. I am finally feeling better with this pregnancy. I started feeling myself lol. So I thought hey, what better way to start the year than with a new hair style? That is if it actually turned as good as I had hoped lol! But I was lucky! It turned out GREAT!
I went in with pictures of certain short styles I had seen online. They were all blonde. I didn’t think I was going to come out as a brunette out of there. But when I sat on Alyssa’s chair and we talked about my options, I let her do her thing and turn me into this brown haired girl I used to know back in the day…wayyyyy back in the day! Last time I had my hair this short I was 14. And it didn’t look this good back then. Thank God for MAKE UP and tanning wipes (tan towels are the best btw! My little secret 🙂
Anyways, long story short, and yes to me this is a short post 🙂 I chopped off all the dead ends: all 5 inches of them! I still have some and I’m determined to make my hair healthy. But it already feels SO much better and fuller.
Here are some of the products I researched and decided to purchase and use:
I wash my hair with either the VS Volume shampoo or the UNITE one. The VS one smells amazing which is why i use it to begin with. It definitely gives my hair volume. Not as much as the UNITE one, but I alternate every now and then. Then I use the conditioner from whichever brand of shampoo I decided to say that day.
Once a week I hear it’s great to give your hair a mask. I read online from many reviews that coconut oil does wonders for your hair and skin. I bought some at costco (they came in a pack of two huge jars). I was expecting actual oil inside, but it comes in a white cream type of texture. I took 3 scoops of it out and melted it in a pot before I used it all over my hair, especially my roots. Make sure to massage your scalp for a few minutes and apply it generously around the tips. I did this two days ago and left it in my hair for 2 hours. I put a shower cap and an old tshirt on because the oil does tend to run down your face and neck. In the shower, it is going to take 2-3 times of shampooing to get all the oil out. It’s a little annoying but trust me you’ll love it after.
Another mask I got that has been AMAZING is the Unite Luxury Intense Mask. This is the more expensive route. But it is also VERY good. And smells yummy! If you can, go for it. It’s truly good for your hair.
After I get out of the shower, I towel dry my hair then apply Lanza Healing volume all over my roots. It doesn’t make your hair oily or anything. It just adds volume to your roots when you blow dry your hair. It makes a difference I swear! Then I apply tiny drops of Moroccan Oil mostly on my ends where I feel I have the most damage. It’s important to apply just a bit or your hair will feel sticky/oily and I personally don’t like that!
Most, if not all products above can be found on Amazon..you know, my second home lol! Thank God for Prime membership! It’s been only 4 days since I cut my hair and it feels so thick and soft. I don’t know what I’ve been doing before, but I feel like I found my “hair” self. So give these a try and let me know if they help you just as much as they help me! I’m not endorsed or getting any of these for free (wouldn’t mind it though 🙂 ) so I have no interest to promote them other than the simple fact that they actually work!
Tis’ all my beautiful darlings,
PS. excuse any grammatical errors. I’m not in the mood to ever proofread. After all, it is a blog 🙂 I say this because some of you literally email me to point out the errors…i know you’re trying to help me, and I LOVE it but I just don’t have the time to go back and edit it all. xo
