I’m 16 weeks and 2 days today. I have been taking diclegis nightly. It’s a new medication for morning sickness that’s very safe to use even for breastfeeding moms. Speaking of breastfeeding, I’m still doing it but only at night time and nap time. I have been meaning to stop one of these days but I’m just not ready yet. Not when he’s so into it still. I need to one of the days though because it’s starting to give me cramps since I am pregnant. Parents and doctors feel differently about this, but my doc and I talked about breastfeeding while pregnant and she was on board with it as long as it didn’t cause pain for me. And so far it hasn’t. But there are times it gives me slight cramps and I can’t bear any more pain than I already go through daily.
With Gio my morning, or really all day sickeness, faded away by 16 weeks. I had hoped that I would have a similar experience this time around but two nights ago I forgot to take my pills and sure enough, the next day I threw up everything. It just takes a toll on you when you have no energy to function and you can’t even continue to eat afterwards, yet you have to, for you, for your baby, for your other child that depends on you to prosper and thrive. So it’s just a vicious cycle and I’m just hoping to God it goes away. I just hold my belly and remind myself of the joy I experience daily with Gio and how amazing that feeling is, so I know this won’t last. But really, I don’t know what I would do without these tiny little white pills. PS. They cost $800!!!!!!! Well, I’m not paying any of that, thank God for insurance but goodness! I’ve just never heard of a morning sickness pill costing that much. In all fairness, they do work miracles with me, so I can’t really complain!
The insurance companies however…God do I hate them. Such aholes! They literally prolonged the process by 3 weeks just to see if I would stop enquiring about them and hope my morning sickness would just go away by then so they wouldn’t have to pay for it. Aholes I swear!
Ok, back to positivity! We celebrated Gio’s First Birthday on December 6th! He was born December 6th 2013. It happened to fall on a Saturday so it was perfect to have a party on his exact birthday. I had been planning for it for a while. I actually started preparations back in August haha. I just knew there were so many little details to it and being a true Capricorn that I am (Super duper organized freaks) I decided to get a head start 4 months prior haha.
I’ve always called George my little prince. That or monkey. But even when I was pregnant with him I felt like he was my little prince. So when it came to choosing a theme for his birthday I immediately thought of a royal ball. As a 1 year old there isn’t much you will understand as far as parties go. He’s an active baby and loves to be chased, play peek-a-boo, walk all the time, and chase balls and colorful balloons. The first birthday I feel like it’s more for the whole family, especially the parents and the baby celebrating one year together. When he gets older his birthday parties will be much more games oriented, full of fun activities for Gio and the kiddos to enjoy. But this year was more of a family celebration. This is my first born. It has been such a journey. It has been such a year! I’ve had so many firsts and a few lasts haha (first mommy mistakes); a year full of happy moments, a few tears here and there whether tears of joy or pure frustration, not to mention the tears I shed when Gio bit his tongue for the first time and I saw blood. I’m pretty sure I freaked him out more. But as a new mom I’ve learned just so much! I feel so accomplished. Of course, there are women that do this on a daily and have been doing it for years and years, so what I do is no different. But it still feels like a great accomplishment. I have raised a healthy, beautiful, smart, active, and happy baby boy. And I think I’ve done a damn good job at it so far. It is truly one of my biggest responsibilities and goals in life: to be a good mother to my kids. So this just feels good. And I’m proud of myself; proud of my husband and I; proud of all the kiddos we have that have bonded so wonderfully together; proud of George and all of the milestones he has reached and I feel so so blessed that we are his parents and we get to experience all of this together.
George’s Royal First Birthday was at Hotel Phillips, downtown KC – at their Crystal Ballroom. I want to thank our amazing coordinators there, Theresa and Leslie, who helped us arrange all that we needed as far as the venue went. Just for the fact that they put up with all my requests and more importantly my event planner’s requests (even last minute ones) is enough to say Thank YOU over and over again! We truly appreciate it!
I also want to thank Jeff Evrard Photography and Morgan Lang Photography for capturing all of the special moments through pictures and video. You guys did an amazing job and I couldn’t be happier with all that you did! Thank you!
Here’s a picture of Gio’s Invitation to his First Birthday Party:
I ordered them from Paper and Pearls. They have an Etsy shop. I found them on Instagram (they’re one of those shops that are not that popular but should be because their attention to detail and how much effort they put into each design is impeccable). Meg, the store owner, has been literally amazing to work with. I think we must have made like 50 changes to the design until we finalized it, but she was so quick and so good at capturing my vision and putting it into paper. I’m creative but boy do I suck at explaining what it is that my vision is. She got it though and they turned out beautiful. I loved loved loved them! So Thank you Meg! On the picture you will also notice the gold tiara full of Swarovski crystals I got from Bridal Styles Boutique. They normally take 8 weeks to make one because they make everything from scratch, with the colors and options you want. You get to pick the style, the colors, the stones, etc. So it takes a while to put it all together but due to the fact that I approached them so last minute, I wasn’t sure I was going to get it in time. But I kid you not, within a week they had it ready and shipped. For that, I thank you! A great business is all about customer service and you guys definitely have one of the best out there! This was Gio the morning of his bday! As usual, we made our breakfast, changed our diaper, played around for a bit since we had some time before the party at noon. Doesn’t he look sooo adorable?
Then Tiffany from Tiffany Hair & Make Up came to work her magic on me! It had been a long time since I had last put make up on or did my hair. I was wearing extensions (keratin tip ones) and as easy as they are, they do need maintaining. And let’s just say I haven’t done much to them. I don’t know what she did but it looked great. You couldn’t even tell a day before it was all so tangled! I ended up taking my extensions out a few days ago cuz I honestly just don’t have the time or patience for them. But I really liked the style Tiff did on my hair. I just told her I wanted an up-do and that’s it.
The biggest THANK YOU by far goes to my event planner, Connie Cervantes, and her team from Divina Designs. For the past 4 months we have worked so closely together and she has become family. She’s just such a sweet, warm soul. She is one of those people you connect with instantly. Not to mention how funny she is. I swear she had me in tears every time we hung out. But what I love most about her is her dedication to her craft. She stops at nothing. There were certain details on a few things that I was very quick to say “screw it” but she didn’t give up and found a way to make it work. I’m honestly so happy to have come across her and to have the pleasure of her doing this event for us. She’s already working on my baby shower haha. But honestly, THANK YOU!!! My family and I love you and everything you have done. And to the rest of your team….every single one of you who showed up at 6 am to make that whole stage work: Thank You!!!!
Ok now I will get to the actual pictures: for those who are interested, I’m going to list all the vendors or the services I used to get everything we needed for the party. There is a lot to include so bear with me. I’ve been trying to write this post for a while haha.
Dress by Monica’s Bridal. I have to give a special Thank You to Monica for working with me on this. I got to pick the exact color, the style, the lace, but all with her help. She would send me sketches and I would tell her which one I liked most until we figured out the right dress for me 🙂 Thank you so much for all of the work you did and for being able to make it work without having a fitting at all. I basically sent her my measurements and she made it happen. THANK YOU! It was a big hit at the party hehe.
Pillow cake by Covenant Cakes & Carriage from Angela Fantasy Creations
Letter G from Angelas Fantasy Creations
Royal Number 1 from Pretty Posh Parties
Gio’s Outfit (since it was in so many pictures, I figured I’ll wait until the end to post the details) is from Angela’s Fantasy Creations.
If I missed anything, please message me and I’ll be happy to add to it. It’s 2 hours past my bed time and I’m sooo exhausted. That reminds me I need to take my damn diclegis pills or tomorrow won’t be so pretty!
Before I go, here’s a video of the whole event captured by the amazingly talented Morgan Lang Photography.
Thank you to everyone that participated in making this happen! Thank you to all the family and friends that attended. Thank you to all the positive comments and feedback we have received online, but more importantly thank you to my amazing husband for being such a great sport and letting me get all crazy with my ideas! I love you and I love the love you have for me.
